Transfer a call

Transfer hands a live call to someone else. Transfer now passes the call over straight away. Ask first puts your caller on hold while you talk to the other person, then you decide what happens.

Before you start

  • You can transfer a connected call that is yours: a call you placed from the dialer, an incoming call you answered, or a power or parallel campaign call.
  • The Transfer tile is greyed while the call is still ringing, while it is on its way to a voicemail drop, and after the call has already been transferred.
  • A call a teammate transferred to you can't be transferred again from your side.

Choose who gets the call

  1. On the live call, click Transfer. The Transfer call panel opens.
  2. Pick a tab:
    • Number: find a saved contact under Search contacts, or type any number under Or type a number.
    • Teammate: choose a user in your workspace. Their browser rings. Teammates marked Not online or Not available can't be picked.
    • Team: choose a team. CallForges calls the team's number, and that number's call routing decides who rings.
  3. If you like, write a line in Note for whoever picks this up. The note is saved on the call record.
  4. Click Transfer now or Ask first, as described below.

Transfer now

Use this when you don't need to speak to the other person first.

  1. Click Transfer now.
  2. Your caller is connected to the person you chose, and your side of the call ends.

If nobody answers the transfer:

  • On a call you placed, the call ends.
  • On an incoming call, the call rings you once more with Transfer not answered — back to you. If you don't answer, the call ends.

Not sure the other person is free? Use Ask first. If they don't answer, your caller simply comes back to you.

Ask first

  1. Click Ask first. Your caller is put on hold and CallForges calls the person you chose.
  2. The panel shows two lines. Transferring to reads Connecting…, then Ringing…, then On the line once they answer. Your caller reads On hold.
  3. Talk to the other person. Your caller can't hear you.
  4. Choose what happens next:
    • Hand over: you leave the call and the two of them keep talking.
    • Merge: all three of you are on one call. When you are done, click Hand over or End. The other two stay connected.
    • Back to caller: talk to your caller again while the other person waits on hold. Back to transfer switches back.
    • Cancel: the other person is dropped and your caller comes back to you. You can cancel while it is still ringing, but not after Merge.

If the other person doesn't pick up, the transfer is cancelled and your caller is taken off hold, back with you.

A recording that is running carries on through the transfer. Once the call has been transferred, the Record tile can't be changed.

What your teammate sees

When you transfer to a teammate, their browser rings like an incoming call. The card reads Transfer from your name, for your caller, so they know who is handing over whom. When they accept, they are on the call with your caller, or with you first if you chose Ask first.

If a transfer doesn't start

Nothing changes on the call and a message says why:

  • … is not available right now. or … isn't online right now. The teammate is set to unavailable, is outside their working hours, or doesn't have CallForges open. Pick someone else.
  • That number is already on this call — pick another. You entered the number you are already talking to.
  • The carrier has not confirmed the call yet. Try again in a moment. The call has only just connected. Wait a second and try again.

Every transfer shows on the call's page in Call Logs. For the controls on a live call, see Place a call from the dialer.
