Place a call from the dialer

The dialer is a small phone panel that opens on top of any page in CallForges. Use it to call a number or a contact by hand, from one of your own phone numbers, right in your browser.

Before you start

  • You need a number to call from: one assigned to you, shared with you, or assigned to a team you are on. If you have none, the dialer shows No number is assigned to you. Ask an owner or admin to assign one in Phone Numbers.
  • Calls go through your browser, so allow CallForges to use your microphone when the browser asks. If you blocked it, allow it again from the site settings in the address bar.

Open the dialer

  1. Click Dial in the header of any page. The dialer opens as a panel. Drag it by its background to move it.
  2. Use the tabs at the bottom: Phone for the keypad, Logs for your recent calls and Contacts to search your contacts.
  3. The badge at the top reads Available, and Live call while you are on a call. You can't close the panel during a call.

The call icon in Contacts, the Call button on a contact's page and Call back in Call Logs also open the dialer, with the number filled in.

Dial a number or a contact

  1. On Phone, pick the country from the flag, then type the number in Enter number. You can also paste it. A pasted number that starts with a country code picks the country for you.
  2. Under Call via, choose the number the other person sees. Your own numbers come first. Other numbers in the workspace are greyed out and marked Not assigned to you.
  3. Click Call, or press Enter.

If the digits can't be a real number for the chosen country, the dialer asks you to check them before it lets you call.

To call a contact, open Contacts in the dialer and search. Click the phone icon next to a contact to call them now, or click their name to put their number on the keypad. In Logs, the Recent, Missed and Voicemail tabs list your calls. Click one to put that number on the keypad.

The keypad starts on your workspace's default country. An owner or admin sets it in Settings → Dialer settings → Call defaults → Default country.

During the call

The panel shows Dialing, then Ringing, then Connected with a timer once the other person answers. The tiles do the rest:

TileWhat it does
KeypadSends digits, for example to get through a phone menu.
NoteA notepad for this call, kept in this browser. To save notes on the call record, use the post-call form.
MuteTurns your microphone off. Press it again to turn it back on.
HoldPuts the call on hold. Your microphone goes off and the other person hears your number's hold message, if it has one. Press Resume to come back.
RecordStarts or pauses the recording. If your number records calls, the call starts with Recording showing. Press to pause (Recording paused) and press again to carry on.
VoicemailWhen you reach a voicemail box, pick one of your recorded messages and click Drop voicemail. The message plays into the voicemail box and your side of the call ends.
TransferHands the call to someone else. See Transfer a call.

The first time someone presses Record, CallForges asks the workspace to confirm that people you call are told they are recorded. An owner or admin clicks Confirm and record. You record voicemail messages in Settings → My voicemail → Voicemail drops.

On a free trial without a card, each call lasts up to 5 minutes. In the last minute the timer counts down. Add a card to remove the limit. See Pricing.

End the call and log the outcome

  1. Click End. The panel shows how long the call lasted, then closes.
  2. If your workspace uses the post-call form, it opens. Choose a Disposition, add a Note and a Rating if you like, and, for a saved contact, tick Add to Do Not Call list if they asked not to be called again.
  3. Click Save. Skip closes the form without saving.

If the form shows Disposition required by your workspace settings, there is no Skip: choose a disposition to close it. An owner or admin turns these on in Settings → Dialer settings → Call experience, with Post-call details form and Make call disposition mandatory to log calls.

When a call is not placed

If a call can't go through, nothing is dialed and you see why:

  • This number is on your Do Not Call list. Remove the number from the list if you are allowed to call it.
  • You're out of credits or Your trial minutes are used up. Add credits or choose a plan in Billing. See Pricing.
  • This workspace is suspended for non-payment. The amount due must be paid in Billing before calls start again.
  • Not available on your workspace. The dialer is switched off for your workspace. Contact support.
